We find out about the diversity of animal and plant life in the woodland area, around the village and down at the beach. This helps us understand the importance of animal and plant habitats and to become more responsible for protecting the environment.
We talk about life in the wood and pond and how it will change at different times of the year. We identify different species using field guides and record our findings in a variety of ways e.g. we might do a tree survey or sketch the things we find using charcoal we have made on the fire.
We are encouraged to think about food chains, energy flow through ecosystems and the interdependence of living things. We also encourage wildlife by creating new habitats and making bird feeders.
